SOME HISTORY

Chick Wren's Rollin' River Band was initially formed around the millennium and has had several lineups since then. The core of the band, however, remains with the original members: Chick on lead vocals and guitar (who previously played with The 58s Blues Band), Pete Walsh (previously with the Birmingham band The Broombusters) on lead guitar and vocals and Simon Neale (who previously played with Slowburner) on bass and vocals. Today, the band's core is joined by Mike Stone on drums and Jonathan Middle on keyboards. The band plays a mixture of classic soul, rhythm and blues, and classic blues.

A notable period for the band was in 2016 when they reunited to record the all-original album Hoodoo River.

About the Album Hoodoo River:

‘Birmingham (UK) A journeyman bluesman and his talented band produced a fine record of Brit electric blues and with changing amount of musicians, seven at the highest count for a live show, their sound is incredible, love the mayhem of the music, you need 4 ears! Back to back plays, exude the wow factor.
Surprised how good this album is for a non - mainstream blues talent, a crescendo of fantastic tunes over 9 tracks is an absolute pleasure to hear for any blues fan. Finale for the album is a classic.’

At The Hollywood Club, April 18th 2015, Birmingham UK:

'Chick Wren’s Rollin River Band rocked the night out with a great set. All original songs written by Chick Wren, 5 solid band members and blistering guitar from Pete Walsh had the audience in the palm of their hands. A live show to remember.'

Henry's Blues House, 9th December, 2021, Birmingham UK:

Chick Wren has wasted no time in putting together another outfit, his Rollin’ River Band, and last Tuesday the regular audience learned what the new boys in town were all about. This is Bar band heaven, if you like. Chick’s added a keyboard player to the new band, which gives an extra, jazzier depth to the sound, showing elements of a Santana-like edge to their music. With a tight rhythm section and a guitar style that was distinctive without being overly flashy, this five-piece outfit warmed an appreciative crowd on a wet and windy winter’s night. That’s Tuesdays sorted – if anyone can tell me of six more nights like this for the rest of the week, I’d be grateful’

At the Core Theatre, Friday 4th March 2022, Solihull UK:

'When Chick Wren split with the much-loved 58s Blues Band, bandleader, singer, guitarist Chick Wren decided to take the opportunity to find some new personnel and update the sound under a new name, Chick Wren’s Rollin’ River Band. Actually not such a new name as Chick had previously recorded his successful album Hoodoo River with some of this line up. They made their debut at Henry’s Blueshouse previously and were re-booked before they left the building. '
